About this blog
DaBlog Online, also known as DaBlog or DaBlog O.L., is part personal blog, part news blog, part ”fun facts” blog and part information blog. Why the name, you ask? It just came to me.
The Blogger era (2006-2007)
DaBlog Online began on Blogger on September 7th, 2006. Its slogan was “100% blog, zero fat.” Some of my posts include my ramblings, opinions and some news articles. Then later on, I put a few YouTube clips (that was before the YouTube Tuesday segment), some fun facts and information on it. I even put in local-related stuff. On December 15th, the blog moved to then-Blogger Beta with a new template, Rounders 3. After the relaunch came a brand-new slogan, “Just Your Average General Blog.” Three months later, my blog had been mentioned in “River City Rapids” a blog based in Richmond, VA. The post was called “How Much is My Blog Worth?” On the night of April 28th, 2007, I’ve accidentally deleted the whole entire blog while putting a layout on it and I’ve regretted it since. Now, I’m fine. But that didn’t stop me from continuing this blog…
DaBlog Must Go On…
On April 29, 2007, the current DaBlog debuts here on WordPress under the name “D.B.O.L. v2.0″. Like version one, it’s updated almost every day. A new segment, YouTube Tuesday and an old favorite, “Did You Know?” were introduced. On June 25th, it hit a milestone: 1,000 hits. A couple months later, I brought back the full name and dropped the “D.B.O.L.” acronym to avoid confusion with a steroid that has the same name (minus the “v2.0″ part), but the URL is the same. DaBlog had a record number of views in one day with 191 on September 3rd. On September, the site had been relaunched with a three-column template which means more stuff on the sidebars like RSS feeds from websites like The Free Dictionary and The Weather Channel. On March 13, 2008, DaBlog hit the 10,000 (hits) mark. After the recent tornadoes that have clobbered central Virginia on April 28th, I informed our visitors with updates on the event the next day. That day–April 29th–was the blog’s first anniversary on WordPress. Thanks to the coverage, it now have an all-time record of 229 views, beating the old one. Also on the same day, DaBlog was number 46 on the Growing Blogs list according to WordPress.com’s Blog of the Day website (it means a WP blog have gained the most popularity). Three months later, DaBlog ditched the 3-column look and went back to its roots as a 2-column blog. Also, the name was shortened to DaBlog O.L. and the record was shattered again–this time, it’s 276. On the afternoon of September 1st, DaBlog had hit the 20,000 mark.
On hiatus not once, but twice
In the middle of September 2008, our computer was hit by a virus, forcing me to post infrequently at the library. It was fixed later that month. But in late-October, another virus attacked it. That happened on of all events: the tail end of the historic 2008 presidential election. It was fixed in mid-November, but with no sound driver. Because of this, the YouTube Tuesday segment was on hiatus. As of April 2009, it still is.
What would the future hold for this blog? Well, you gotta stay tuned. ![]()
